Trekking Cochamó

The hike to the Amphitheatre starts at La Junta and heads southwest along the Cochamó River. We cross the river on a tree trunk that forms a natural bridge into the evergreen forest. Along the first part of the trail, we pass waterfalls and walk through forests of coihue, canelo, mañío, alerce, quila and lenga. After approximately three hours, the forest gives way to the magnificent Amphitheatre, a circular granite wall rising 700 metres. The most demanding part of the hike begins here: we leave the trail and follow a streambed, negotiating large rocks, roots and fallen trees.

At the end of the hike, we enjoy spectacular views from the foot of the immense granite wall. After lunch, the helicopter picks us up for a return flight past the iconic Trinidad and El Monstruo peaks.
