Unexplored Lake Kayak

We leave the lodge in the morning by helicopter with our guide and chef. On a clear day, the 30-minute flight offers spectacular views of the snow-covered peaks around Tagua Tagua Park. We continue over the Traidor River and Toro Glacier before reaching lakes Inexplorado Chico and Inexplorado Grande. As we descend, we see deep grey-green pools coloured by glacial sediment. We fly past the waterfall between the two lakes and land on a pristine white-sand beach beside Lake Inexplorado Grande.

Our guides prepare the kayaks and stand-up paddleboards while the chef sets up the table and fire for a late lunch. Once we have put on our wetsuits, we explore the lake, surrounded by ancient alerce trees and snow-covered glaciers. As we paddle, we pause to listen to the sounds of ice breaking from the glaciers. Back on the beach, our meal is ready, and we share the day’s experiences while seated comfortably by the water. There is time for another swim or paddle in the afternoon before flying back to the lodge, where the hot tub, sauna and barbecue area await, along with appetisers.
